Edgenuity is an online curriculum that is available to every teacher and student in the district.
There are two types of courses offered in Edgenuity: (1) original credit courses taken online and supported on a weekly basis by a district teacher who is appropriately credentialed for the content area; and (2) credit recovery courses taught by a CA credentialed teacher through the Edgenuity program and mentored by district “Flex Academy” teachers.
Each school has four computer labs dedicated to the “Flex Academy” program and a pair of district teachers (one with an emphasis on English/history and one with an emphasis on mathematics/science) who are assigned to mentor students participating in the Flex Academy program.
The “flex” part of the Flex Academy is that participation can be full-time or part-time. Some students may participate in credit recovery courses to accelerate their learning during the “flex” time and spend other time in regular education classes. Others may remain in the Flex Academy all day. Independent study students will participate in the flexible scheduling allowed by the Flex program and come in once a week to the lab for their direct instruction. Students whose schedules do not allow them to take a course of choice in the regular classroom can be assigned to the Flex Academy to take an original credit class online which is supervised by an appropriately credentialed district teacher.
The Edgenuity curriculum is web-based so students can access the curriculum anytime/anywhere, offering opportunities for acceleration to students who are interested in taking some classes in an independent study format while also participating in classes at the comprehensive sites.
