All high school students under the age of 18 years old must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a “work permit”) in order to be employed in California. Students granted work permits shall be required to demonstrate and maintain a 2.0 grade point average and satisfactory school attendance.
To obtain a Work Permit:
- Download a “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor” form (CDE B1-1).
(Also available from your school office or download below)
- Complete the form.
- You sign it
- Your parent/guardian signs it
- Your employer fills out their section and signs it
- Turn it in to your school:
- Galt High School: John van den Raadt, Work Experience teacher
- Liberty Ranch High School: Mike Turpin, Work Experience teacher
- Estrellita High School: Joseph Schallberger, Principal
- School reviews and issues a Work Permit (CDE B1-4)
- Provide original copy to employer
- You’ll need a new permit if you change jobs or when a new school year begins.
To obtain a Work Permit during the SUMMER:
- Download a “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor” form (CDE B1-1).

- Complete the form.
- You sign it
- Your parent/guardian signs it
- Your employer fills out their section and signs it
- Turn it in to the District Office:
