Work Permits

All high school students under the age of 18 years old must have a Permit to Employ and Work (commonly referred to as a “work permit”) in order to be employed in California. Students granted work permits shall be required to demonstrate and maintain a 2.0 grade point average and satisfactory school attendance.
 

To obtain a Work Permit:

  1. Download a “Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor” form (CDE B1-1).
     (Also available from your school office or download below)
  2. Complete the form.
  3. You sign it
  4. Your parent/guardian signs it
  5. Your employer fills out their section and signs it
  6. Turn it in to your school:
    • Galt High School:  John van den Raadt, Work Experience teacher
    • Liberty Ranch High School:  Mike Turpin, Work Experience teacher
    • Estrellita High School:  Joseph Schallberger, Principal
  7. School reviews and issues a Work Permit (CDE B1-4)
  8. Provide original copy to employer
  9. You’ll need a new permit if you change jobs or when a new school year begins.

  2. Complete the form.
  3. You sign it
  4. Your parent/guardian signs it
  5. Your employer fills out their section and signs it
  6. Turn it in to the District Office:

  7. District Office reviews and issues a Work Permit (CDE B1-4
  8. Provide original copy to employer
