This program is known by several different names throughout the district:  The Freshman Initiative, College and Career Readiness Class, My Ten Year Plan.  Get Focused, Stay Focused begins with a freshman course in which every district freshman explores his or her personal interests and begins to formulate an idea of what type of life style and career to pursue. Through examining three career options and completing budgets for their lifestyle based on their selected careers, they begin to narrow their focus and start planning how they will move from high school to achieve their personal, educational and vocational goals by creating a ten-year plan.  The plans are online and available to all teachers.  Development and monitoring of the plans continue in grades ten through twelve and students can access and update their plans after graduation. While this program is documented to reduce drop-outs, we have selected it for our district because it helps us to create ownership and engagement for high school students.
