Summer Classes to be held at Liberty Ranch - July 5 – August 4

Galt, CA - The Galt Joint Union High School District is excited to be offering summer classes this year from July 5-August 4.  This summer, the focus will be on providing summer bridge classes for our incoming freshman that are not quite ready for the rigors of high school level math and/or English.

We will be offering two summer bridge courses in math and English to support our incoming 9th graders score a “Nearly Meets Standards” on their SBAC tests.

Elevate [Math] is a research-based curriculum for students that struggle in math and score a “Nearly Meets Standards” on their 8th grade SBAC test in math.  The curriculum is designed to provide these students with the skills they will need to be successful in Integrated Math I.  Students that take and pass this class will be prepared to take Integrated Math I in their freshman year.

English 3D is a research-based curriculum for students that struggle in English and readying and score a “Nearly Meets Standards” on their 8th grade SBAC test in English.  The curriculum is designed to improve students reading, writing, and communication skills so they will be successful in English 9.  Students that take and pass this class will be prepared to take English 9 in their freshman year.

For both of these classes, the 8th grade CAASPP scores will not be available until mid to late June.  In the interim, student’s 7th grade SBAC scores in math and English, as well as their Lexile score on the Reading Inventory and their placement score on the High School Math Readiness test that students took in January will be used to identify students that qualify for either of these courses.

Other classes that will be offered include:

  • Driver’s Education classes. 2 two-week sessions will be offered (Session 1: July 10- July 21;  Session 2: July 24-August 4)
  • Math and English acceleration and credit recovery for students that participate in our Migrant Education program.
  • Flex Academy Credit Recovery for any of our current seniors that are not going to meet the graduation requirements by the last day of school but are within 10 credits of graduating.

Classes will be held at Liberty Ranch High School and will run Monday through Friday, from 8:00-2:00pm each day.

Applications for summer classes are available in the counseling offices of both high schools.  The deadline to submit applications is Friday, May 26.

For more information or for any questions about the summer school program, please contact Sibba Alexanders at 209-745-3061 or salexanders@ghsd.k12.ca.us or the counseling department at either high school.
